If files have been renamed with an unfamiliar extension and there’s a note demanding payment, that’s ransomware. Stop using the computer and call us before doing anything else.

The quick fix a lot of places offer is to wipe the machine and reinstall Windows. That works, and it also takes your photos, documents and email with it.
